Prepare & Care
Preparing yourself before a spray tan is crucial, what you do beforehand can make a big difference to a flawless tan.
Before...
Exfoliate
Your skin has a build up of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner your spray tan will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take a while for it to “build up”. So your tan will last longer. It is best to use exfoliators that are especially made for the tanning industry, as they will not contain any oils or moisturizers. When exfoliating Spend extra time paying particular attention to dry areas such as knees, elbows and feet to ensure an even flawless application.
No deodorant, moisturizer or makeup
Remove your makeup, deodorant, moisturisers etc and avoid strong body washes prior to your tanning session. The skin has to be completely natural. These products can sometimes act as a barrier.
Shave or Wax
If you need to shave or wax your legs do it definitely before and make sure that you wash your legs after waxing to remove any wax residue. If you shave your legs after spray on tan, you will take off some of your tan with the hair. It is best to shave or wax one or two days before, leaving at least 24 hours gives your pores time to close so you can have that sexy bronzed body from the word go!
After...
Loose Clothing
Wear loose fitting dark clothes following your tanning session. The solution washes out of most clothing, but it is best to be safe.
Take it Easy
Allow your tan to develop for a minimum of 8 hours; your tan be developing for up to 24 hours so the longer you can allow the better. Do not shower or bathe during this initial 8 hours also limiting your physical activity for 6-8 hours is best. Increased perspiration may adversely affect the results of your tan. For this reason we recommend that you have you tan at least eight hours before so that you can shower before partying.
When you bathe or shower 8 hours later use your normal soap or shower gel. You will see some discolouration in the water. This is normal and just the tanning agent being washed away. You will then be left with your beautiful sunless tan.
Pat dry with your towel after your bath or shower, don't rub!
Moisturise
Keep your skin moisturised, the best way is to moisturize in the morning and evening ideally after a shower or bath. Use a tan extender daily as this will pro-long your tan.
Don't Exfoliate
Avoid things that will exfoliate your skin excessively. Do not take a hot, luxurious bath after your spray on tan. It will make your skin exfoliate faster, as will rolling in the sand on the beach. A short swim in the sea will not take much off however, a swim in the chlorinated pool will not exfoliate the tan, it will bleach it!
Use gentle shower products
If you have to use soap, use good quality ones that moisturize. Better still; a gentle shower gel will be much better for your bronzed skin.
